Yumino Seki – Rehearsal Director, Hastings

Yumino Seki is a Hastings based dance artist.  She trained in both Classical and contemporary dance in her native country, Japan.  Moving to the UK, she has broadened her dance career, practising different dance approaches including Butoh.  Since 2000 she has toured in Europe and the UK with the European based Butoh companies, Mamu Dance Theatre, Teh-Pen-Chii and Ariadone.

Concurrently developing her own work, she has performed nationally and internationally over the last 10 years.  Her inquiry into Butoh’s Body Mind approach has extended her practise.  In 2007, she received an award from DCD –  Dancers’ Career Development – to study VMI Somatic Practise with Patricia Bardi in Amsterdam.  She is now a qualified Somatic movement educator and therapist.

She engages with diverse groups in the community through dance.  She has led Creative Partnership dance projects and taught at The Sussex Coast College, Hastings, and performs with puppet company Idolrich.  Teaching dance to adults with learning disabilities at Hastings and Bexhill Mencap Society, she especially enjoys creating dance pieces for the summer school, with her students.
