Why should I come on the Blazing Saddles Performance Ride?
It’s a great opportunity to get out on your bike & enjoy a unique performance.
Is bike hire available?
Audience members can join the Ride using their own bikes. Hire options are currently being explored, more info shortly… Please note, riders are advised to wear a helmet for the Performance Ride.
How fit & fast do I need to be?
You need to have a good level of cycling competency sufficient to be able to ride in a group on the ride. The routeis broken into short, manageable sections. It is generally fairly flat, with a long, uphill slope on Highgate, some of which will be walking.
If you have not ridden for a very long time, we would recommend you meet & watch the performance at one or two of the locations. For example, start at Abbot Hall Park, then walk to the Brewery Arts Centre & back to Abbot Hall Park for the finale; or the top of Finkle St / Market St, down each one on either Sat or Sun & to Abbot Hall Park for the finale.
Will I lose the group if I’m too slow?
No, the pace of the ride will be very relaxed. The group may split on junctions but the ride or ride leaders will wait & regroup at each stop.
Do I need to be an experienced rider?
We do recommend that you are familiar with, or have some experience of cycling on the roads. This is a sociable ride, a perfect opportunity if you are not a regular cyclist.
Would I be welcome if I’m not experienced riding in a group?
Yes, this is a sociable ride & will be a great experience
Do I need to do anything special with my bike?
The most important thing is that your bike is well maintained & roadworthy.
Additional Access Information
The Blazing Saddles Show & ride will take place in open, public spaces, along roads & cycle lanes. The routes are all wide enough for larger bikes or trikes.
What else should I bring?
We recommend you bring a spare inner tube & a pump. There is a Bicycle Repair shop in the Old Brewery for emergencies.
On Sunday, please bring food &/or drink to join in with the picnic in Fletcher Park.
Where are there toilets on the route?
Public toilets are available as follows:
Abbot Hall Park (stair free access from the car park)
Brewery Arts Centre (accessible)
Kendal Town Hall on Lowther St / Highgate
